We've been creative today

Leoni came home from school today and wanted to sew! Mmh, not quite what I had in mind for the day, but...
Together we made a simple tote bag before, she cut it and I sewed. So it had to be something different. I came across the little owls in the latest issue of the Sew Hip magazine and I really liked them. And it was real teamwork: Leoni chose the fabrics, traced the pattern of the sheet, cut the fabrics and helped a little bit with the sewing. Then she stuffed the owl, ears and feet and I handstitched all the other bits on. It's really nice to see that she is enjoying crafts. And she is very proud of her owl :-)

Be aware of the crocodile!

Although this is a friendly one :-) I made this slipover vest from the OTTOBRE pattern "Salmiak" (issue 4/2009) in a dark grey sweat fabric. Really quick and easy to sew!

And these are some more items for my next craft fair: notebooks with a new cover. They are not very pricey and with some small pieces of material they can be turned into lovely gifts...

The big day

Today was Leoni's 1st day at school! She had been very excited over the past few days and when she got up this morning ( 7:30, I actually expected it to be earlier :-), she was dressed in no time without me having to remind her as I usually have to and she was ready to go by about 8am. School starts at 9 though, so we had nearly and hour to fill. What Leoni didn't know was, when we went to Germany last month we brought this "thing" back, that she's holding in her arms. Every child in Germany gets one of these cones on their 1st school day, filled with goodies and sweets. She saw them in the shop windows and was very sad, that she wouldn't have one on her first day. But my mum had already bought one and we smuggled it home whithout her knowing :-) You can imagine that it was a real surprise!

Baby hats and neckerchiefs

I was busy this morning cutting out baby hats and little neckechiefs to sell at the next fair. I haven't counted them yet, but there are quite a lot. And I thought I could get the cutting out finished today when the postman nocked on my door....

Yes, the expected Hilco delivery is here already!!! It's always a bit like Christmas when the new fabrics arrive. And for all of you who can't wait until they are in the shop, have a little nosey:

Arbroath Sea Fest

The harbour
Face painting is a must
Ahoi captain
The famous Arbroath Smokies

Hair scrunchies

This is what I've been making out of the fabric strips. They are quick and easy to make, but I finished only half of them so far as the weather was really nice here the past few days and I spent most of the time outside in the garden :-)

Have a guess

It is only four weeks to the Dundee Flower and Food Festival, where I'll be having a stall again. I have started making bits and bobs, small things that hopefully will sell easily. Yesterday I cut out 50 (!) of these strips, all 50x12cm, using leftover pieces from other projects. A big thank you to the person who invented the rotary cutter and cutting mat, without these gadgets it would have taken me hours...Today I started sewing these strips into - well, have a guess! I will post a picture as soon as they (or at least some) are finished.

It doesn't always have to be clothes

Sometimes I really enjoy sewing something other than clothes. These are some useful items for you and your home:

Dundee craft fair

Today was the craft fair in Dundee. It was pouring with rain early in the morning and everybody thought it was going to be a very quiet day, but the weather cleared and people kept coming through the doors from start to finish .... just the way we like it :-)
